The first crash happened at 12:10 a.m. Friday, when a Chrysler Pacifica was northbound on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 24th Street, when its driver apparently lost control and struck a concrete wall on the shoulder, before swinging back across traffic and into the concrete center median, according to an Illinois State Police District Chicago master sergeant.
Witness told police the vehicle appeared to have lost control while traveling about 40 m.p.h. at the time of the crash, the master sergeant said.
Radiance R. May, 34, of the 3700 block of West Windsor Avenue, was pronounced dead at 12:52 a.m. at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, according to a representative from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
The woman, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the master sergeant said. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
A male driver died in the second crash, on the Stevenson Expressway just south of the entrance to the Dan Ryan.
At 1:15 a.m., a northbound vehicle crashed into the median and rolled over, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Ramon Coss. Speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, Coss said.
The male driver and sole occupant in the vehicle was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 2:01 a.m., Coss said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has been notified of the death.
The right lane on the inbound Stevenson remained as late as an hour after the crash, state police said.
