1 Dead In Fire In Humboldt Park
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A person was found dead in an abandoned building that caught fire Friday afternoon in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The abandoned residential building in the 1600 block of North Mozart Street caught fire about 4:30 p.m., Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said. The fire started outside in the back, apparently trapping someone inside who was found dead in the rear enclosed porch on the second floor.
That person appeared to be an adult male, Lanford said.
People had pried open boards and were apparently squatting there, but Langford did not know if anyone else was in or around the building when the fire started.
Police said they are conducting a death investigation.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has been notified of the death but did not have additional information Friday night.
