1 Dead, Another Wounded In Apparent Road Rage Incident On North Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Charles Jones was shot and killed overnight after leaving the gentleman's club he owned.
Employees of Charles Jones describe him as a businessman who was also a friend and a mentor, someone who used the nightlife industry to teach them, not just how to make money, but how to live their lives.
In a high rise Hyde Park apartment, the grieving has been going on all day by young men who worked for Charles Jones and looked up to him.
"He showed us how to be young black men, and be entrepreneurs, and make money the right way. And also feed other people, feed a family," said Victor Harland.
Jones was gunned down shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of North Branch Street.
Police say, Jones was driving his Maserati when it was sideswiped by a 2005 Buick Lacrosse. Then, several people got out of Buick, and opened fire on both Jones and a 44-year-old female passenger. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Hospital.
Asked if it was difficult to believe, employee Kevin Thunderbird said, "You wouldn't expect that from an older guy like that, a murder shot and killed. But unfortunately, that's what happens in Chicago."
Jones, a veteran of Chicago's nightlife scene, was a co-owner and day-to-day manager of The Factory Gentleman's Club, a far South Side strip bar. But those who worked with him say he used his position to train and lift up others.
"A lot of people are going to know him for business, but he was really like a kind, warm-hearted, loving person deep down inside," said employee Bryant Creamer. "We lost a black icon in Chicago, a major businessman and a major family guy."
Jones' female companion is listed in stable condition at Northwestern.
