1 Dead, 16 Wounded In Shootings Since Friday Night
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person was killed and 16 other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night.
Shannon Ware, 27, was killed outside his home in the 100 block of West 116th Street after he was shot in the head and chest, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
He was standing in a group of people on the sidewalk when an unidentified male fired from across the street, police said. The shooter then fled in a light-colored sedan.
He was dead at the scene, the medical examiner's office said.
The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred about 3:50 a.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
A 17-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk near East Congress Parkway and South Kostner Avenue when he "heard shots and felt pain," police said.
A family member drove the boy to Loretto Hospital, where he was in "stable" condition with a gunshot wound to his right calf, police said.
Earlier Sunday morning, a man was shot in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the city's Southwest Side.
The 21-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk about 3:15 a.m. in the 4100 block of West 47th Street when shots were fired at him from a passing dark-colored sedan, police said.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said.
A man was shot about 3 a.m. Sunday in the West Side Austin neighborhood. He walked into Loretto Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left forearm, and later told police he had been shot at Madison Street and Central Avenue.
About 1:25 a.m., an 18-year-old man shot was leaving a party in the 4400 block of South Wells Street, police said. A gray-colored minivan drove by and someone inside started shooting, striking the man in the lower left leg.
Friends took him to University of Chicago Medical Centers where he was in "stable" condition, police said.
About 1 a.m. -- and roughly a block away from the Madison Street and Central Avenue shooting -- a 23-year-old man was shot in the foot after he heard gunfire in the 5500 block of West Washington Street, police said. Family members drove him to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park for treatment.
About 11 p.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the Far South Side West Pullman neighborhood, after five males approached him in the 11400 block of South Halsted Street, police said. He was shot in the foot and taken to Roseland Hospital in "stable" condition.
Fifteen minutes earlier, a man standing on a second-floor apartment landing was shot in the ankle after hearing gunfire in the 200 block of West 112th Street, police said.
The 32-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he is in good condition.
Also Saturday evening, a 30-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in the 2500 block of East 104th Street, also on the Far South Side. He was taken to Christ Hospital for a gunshot wound to the left side, police said. Circumstances surrounding the shooting were not yet known.
About 2:20 a.m. Saturday in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood, a man was shot while sitting on the porch in the 1400 block of North Springfield Avenue, police said.
A dark-colored 4-door car drove by and someone inside opened fire, shooting him in the upper left shoulder, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
A man was critically wounded Friday night in a shooting in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
He was standing on the sidewalk in the 2800 block of West Arthington Street about 9:10 p.m. when a male shooter approached and started firing, police said.
The man, 18, suffered gunshot wounds to the groin, back and neck and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
Authorities later named him as a suspect in the Friday double murder of 31-year-old Chervon Brown and her son, 5-year-old Stering Sims in their West Side home. The suspected gunman remained hospitalized Saturday.
Earlier Friday, six people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in front of a strip mall in the Uptown neighborhood.
At least one person opened fire from a four-door sedan driving by the group in the 1000 block of West Lawrence Avenue, police said.
The wounded, five of whom were taken to area hospitals by Fire Department ambulances, included an innocent bystander waiting at a bus stop adjacent to the mall at the corner of Lawrence Avenue and Sheridan Road.
Nobody was in custody in the shootings as area detectives investigated.
