1 Dead, 7 Wounded In Shootings On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person was killed and seven others were hurt in shootings across Chicago on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
A man was shot to death early Christmas morning in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
Eric Hunt, 40, was found by police with multiple gunshot wounds to his body about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of West 73rd Place, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Hunt, of the 4300 block of South Calumet Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 8:32 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred Wednesday evening when two teens were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were walking in the 8000 block of South Maplewood Avenue about 7 p.m. when a car passed by and an occupant fired at them, police said.
The 17-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg and the 19-year-old was shot in the left shoulder, police said. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition.
About 11:30 p.m. Christmas Eve, a 50-year-old man was arguing with his brother-in-law, 36, inside a home in the 1300 block of South Throop Avenue when the 36-year-old pulled out a gun and shot the other man in the shoulder, police said.
The 50-year-old was in "stable" condition at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, while the 36-year-old was being questioned by police late Wednesday.
Another man, 41, was shot in the left side of the chest about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday in the 8400 block of South Paulina Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said. He took himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in critical condition, police said. He was later transported to nearby Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
About 8:30 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 7500 block of South King Drive, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition. No one is in custody, police said.
Shortly after 1 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg at the intersection of Lake Street and Lavergne Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known. No one is in custody, police said.
The holiday's first shooting occurred about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when a 46-year-old man was shot during a home invasion in the 2700 block of North Mango Street on the Northwest Side, police said. He was shot in the head and chest and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he is in serious but "stable" condition, police said.
Police captured three suspects near the scene. Jose Barriga, 18, of the 2400 block of North Mango Avenue; Sergio Mayim, 22, of the 2500 block of North Mango Avenue; and Matthew Andras, 25, of the 2200 block of North Menard Avenue were each charged with felony counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and home invasion.
Area detectives are investigating all of the shootings.
