1 Dead, 5 Wounded In Shootings Over Just 1 Hour
CHICAGO (CBS) -- It was another violent night in Chicago, with one man killed and five others injured in shootings in a period of just one hour.
Around 10:27 p.m. Wednesday, a 21-year-old man was shot and killed in the 6200 block of South Laflin Street in the Englewood neighborhood.
Police arrived to find the man lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He is identified as Lorenzo Wiley, of the 2000 block of West 68th Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Wiley was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m. at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, according to the Medical Examiner's office.
About 40 minutes earlier, a shooting in the South Shore neighborhood left three people wounded. The victims were shot around 9:50 p.m. in the 7600 block of South Coles Avenue, police said.
A 16-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks, while a 20-year-old man was shot in the ankle and an 18-year-old man was shot in the arm, police said. The group was sitting in a front yard when two gunmen approached and shot them before fleeing.
The 16-year-old was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, according to police and fire officials. The other two were taken to South Shore Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Around 9:45 p.m., a teen was shot and wounded in the West Woodlawn neighborhood.
The man, 18, and a friend were standing on the corner of 63rd Street and Evans Avenue about 9:45 p.m. when a person came up and started talking with them, according to police News Affairs.
While the man and his friend walked away the person pulled out a gun and fired several shots, police said.
The 18-year-old was shot in the leg and taken in good condition to University of Chicago Medicine, police said.
And at 10:11 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot and wounded in the North Lawndale neighborhood. The boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street at 10:11 p.m. when someone in a passing light-colored vehicle shot him, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back, and was listed in stable condition, according to police.
No one was in custody Thursday morning in any of the shootings.
