1 Dead, 4 Wounded In Thursday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person has been killed and four others wounded in shootings around Chicago Thursday.
The fatal shooting happened about 10:35 a.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
Lee M. Fields, 33, was found in the 4400 block of West Monroe Street with two gunshot wounds to the lower abdomen, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He ran into a building and collapsed on the stairs.
Fields, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, the medical examiner's office said.
Between five and six males were seen running westbound in the 4300 block of West Monroe after the shooting, police said.
The most recent shooting happened in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
A man, 46, was standing on the sidewalk outside of a corner store in the 4400 block of West Diversey at 6:56 p.m. when someone who was hiding between two vehicles nearby opened fire, according to police. The shooter then ran away in an alley. The man was shot in the left leg and left buttocks and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said. His condition had stabilized early Friday.
A 15-year-old boy was critically injured just 20 minutes earlier in a Belmont Cragin neighborhood drive-by shooting on the Northwest Side.
About 6:35 p.m., the boy was walking with a friend in the 2400 block of North Austin when someone inside a red vehicle pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said. The vehicle then sped away northbound on Austin. The boy was shot in the chest and was taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. A police source said the shooting may be gang-related.
A 17-year-old boy was shot about 10 minutes before in the South Shore neighborhood.
The teenager was on a bicycle in the 7100 block of South Ridgeland about 6:25 p.m. when someone in dark clothing walked up and fired shots, police said. The shooter then ran away. The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the right hand and was taken in good condition to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center. A police source said he is a documented gang-member and is not cooperating with investigators.
Around the same time, A 35-year-old man was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The man was shot in the right ankle at 6:22 p.m. in the 400 block of West 118th Street, according to police. He was standing outside when two unknown males wearing hoodies opened fire and ran away. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized. The shooting appears to be narcotics-related, a police source said.
