1 Dead, 4 Wounded In Thursday Evening Shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed, and four more were injured, in a rash of shootings Thursday evening on the city's South and West sides.
The man who died, a 51-year-old security guard, was shot around 9:40 p.m. in the parking lot of a Save-a-Lot store at 5555 W. North Ave. in the North Austin neighborhood, police said.
Police said the man was a security guard at the store and was seen entering a vehicle with someone else inside it. He sat in the vehicle for a few minutes before being shot in the back and pushed out of the vehicle, police said.
The man, identified as Mayberry Porter of the 4800 block of West Polk Street, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital of Cook County at 10:19 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was shot in the back.
Detectives were investigating at the scene overnight, in front of the Save-a-Lot store.
A few hours earlier, a man was shot and wounded in the West Englewood neighborhood. At 6:47 p.m., the 35-year-old victim was walking in the 6300 block of South Wolcott Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said.
He was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, police said.
At 6:55 p.m., another man was shot and wounded in the Roseland neighborhood.
The 21-year-old man was walking in the 0-99 block of East 101st Street at 6:55 p.m. when two assailants started shooting in his direction, a police News Affairs release said.
The victim was taken in good condition to an unidentified hospital with a gunshot wound to the thigh.
At 9 p.m., a man was shot and wounded in the Englewood neighborhood. He was hit by gunfire in the 6400 block of South Eggleston Avenue about 9 p.m. and was transported to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in stable condition, police said.
Further details were not available.
And around 9:05 p.m., a man was shot and wounded in the 1200 block of South Fairfield Avenue in the Douglas Park neighborhood.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition and no one is in custody, police said.
No one was reported in custody in any of the shootings as of just before 6 a.m. Friday.
