UPDATED 03/21/12 9:37 a.m.
WAUCONDA, Ill. (CBS) -- One person was killed and three more were injured early Wednesday, in a crash on busy Route 12 in Wauconda.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the three-car crash happened sometime before 6 a.m. at the juncture of Route 12 and Case Road, near the Golden Oaks Rodeo Grounds.
Three vehicles were involved in a crash, and one of them careened across the roadway after getting struck. The white car was left sitting across three of the northbound lanes.
A Daily Herald account of the accident indicated that a pickup truck broadsided the white sedan as it turned left from northbound Case Road, ejecting and killing a passenger in the car.
A heating contractor's van was also involved in the crash.
The deceased victim's body was covered by a white sheet next to the heating contractor's van.
Three others were injured and evaluated at the scene.
Southbound Route 12 was closed as of 6 a.m., and was expected to be closed for some time as police investigated. Only the right lane was open on the northbound side.
