1 Dead, 2 Others Wounded In Back Of The Yards

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two suspects were in custody after police chased them down early Sunday following a shooting where one man was killed and two others seriously wounded in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.
The shooting happened at 1:55 a.m. in the 1400 block of West 53rd Street, police said.
The victims were a 24-year-old man who died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, another 24-year-old man who was shot in the back and a 22-year-old man who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The 24-year-old who died -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Equilla Colmanwas taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other 24-year-old was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, and the 22-year-old was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.
Deering District officers were patrolling the area when they heard gunshots, Mirabelli said. The officers went to where the sound of the gunshots had come from and started searching the area. They found the victims and summoned emergency medical assistance.
A silver-colored vehicle was seen heading west on 53rd Street from Loomis and a description of the vehicle was broadcast on police radio.
Other officers saw the vehicle speed off to 55th Street and they attempted to pull it over, but the driver would not stop, Mirabelli said.
A Deering District sergeant who was monitoring the effort to stop the suspects was able to curb the vehicle in an alley off 55th Street, between Laflin and Elizabeth streets, Mirabelli said.
Two suspects in the vehicle jumped out and flee don foot. One of them was soon found in an abandoned building at 55th and Elizabeth and the other was apprehended after a short foot chase, Mirabelli said.
In addition to taking the two into custody, police recovered two handguns, he said.
As of about 11 a.m. the two suspects were being questioned by Area Central detectives.
