1 Dead, 2 Injured In Woodlawn Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Alcohol and drugs may have played a role in a traffic crash that left a woman dead and two other people injured in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood early Sunday, police said.
Two vehicles collided in the intersection of 63rd Street and Woodlawn Avenue at 2:26 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.
A 1999 white Infiniti sedan traveling west on 63rd Street ran a red light and was struck in the rear by a 2002 Nissan traveling south on Woodlawn with a green light, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The Infiniti then spun out of control and struck an utility pole.
Tabria Jamron, 18, of the 5600 block of South Prairie Avenue, was taken to Northwestern Memrorial Hospital where she died at 3:37 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. She was a passenger in the Infiniti, Mirabelli said.
The driver of the Infiniti, a 20-year-old man was taken in "stable" condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Mirabelli said. A 22-year-old man, a passenger in the Infiniti, was taken in "stable" condition to University of Chicago Medical Center.
The 26-year-old male driver of the Nissan and his 26-year-old female passengers refused medical treatment, Mirabelli said.
The driver of the Nissan was ticketed for not having insurance, Mirabelli said.
Alcohol and drugs may have been a factor in the crash, Mirabelli said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is looking into the crash.
