1 Dead, 2 Injured In Crash At 63rd And Harlem

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One man was killed and two others were injured early Thursday in a crash on the cusp of the Southwest Side's Clearing neighborhood.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the accident happened around 3:25 a.m. at 63rd Street and Harlem Avenue, on the boundary of Chicago and suburban Summit, police said.
It all started after a man ran a red light, police said. His vehicle went out of control at high speed, rolled over multiple times and slammed into another vehicle, police said.
The vehicles ended up on top of each other.
The man was dead at the scene and two other were injured, police said.
The occupants of the other vehicle were taken in critical condition, one to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and the other to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Summit Fire Lt. Eric Antrobus said. A third man refused treatment.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said the man who was killed was 38 years old, and he was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 3:56 a.m. His identity was not being released early Thursday pending family notification.
Following the crash, Harlem Avenue was blocked at the scene, and 63rd Street was blocked in both directions just to the east of Harlem Avenue.
By 6:45 a.m., Harlem Avenue was back open in both directions, and eastbound 63rd Street was back open, but westbound 63rd Street remained closed.
The police Major Accidents Investigations Unit is investigating.
