1 Dead, 2 Hurt In Tri-State Crash
MARKHAM, Ill. (STMW) - A woman is dead and two other people were injured in a chain-reaction crash Friday night on the Tri-State Tollway near south suburban Markham.
The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday on the northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) by 159th Street near Markham when a vehicle crashed into the back of a semi truck, Illinois State Police Tollway District Sgt. David Schneider said.
A second northbound vehicle then swerved in an attempt to avoid the initial accident, but instead crashed into the rear passenger's side of the first vehicle, Schneider said.
A passenger in the swerving vehicle was killed in the crash, Schneider said.
Amani Hinnawi, 23, of Homer Glen, was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the semi truck was taken to South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest and the driver of the vehicle that attempted to avoid the initial crash was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The semi truck driver and a co-driver in the truck were uninjured, Schneider said.
