1 Dead, 16 Wounded In Weekend Violence
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person is dead and at least another 16 wounded in violence throughout the city this weekend.
Late Friday, a man was shot while being robbed in an alley in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood. The 26-year-old man was walking through an alley in the 3900 block of South King Drive at 11:49 p.m. when an unknown male approached with a gun and demanded money, police said. The two struggled and the man was shot in the index finger on his left hand, police said. He walked into Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.
Not long after that a 25-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh while walking in the 3800 block of West Harrison Street at 11:55 p.m. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh and was driven to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was listed in good condition.
About 10 minutes later a 25-year-old man was shot while inside a vehicle in the South Side Marquette Park neighborhood. He was in the back seat of a vehicle in the 7200 block of South Western Avenue when shots were fired at 12:04 a.m., police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right hand, according to police.
In the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood, four people in a van suffered minor injuries when several people in an SUV opened fire early Saturday.
A van was stopped at a stoplight in the 1500 block of West Morse Avenue at 12:55 a.m. when an SUV drove by and made a U-turn in front of the vehicle, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Several occupants of the SUV jumped out and opened fire on the van, Alfaro said. The driver of the van struck several parked vehicles while fleeing the scene.
The four occupants of the van, three females and one male, did not suffer gunshot wounds but were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
A little more than 24 hours later and less than one block away from that incident, a man was wounded in a drive-by shooting.
A grey sedan drove by and fired shots at a man walking in the 1400 block of West Morse Avenue at 2 a.m., police said. The 27-year-old man was taken in "stable" condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston with gunshot wounds to the lower left leg and right foot, according to police.
Saturday evening two teenagers were shot in the legs in the South Side Grand Crossing neighborhood in a gang-related incident.
The two boys, both 14 years old, were walking westbound on East 80th Street from South Kenwood Avenue at about 6:48 p.m. when they passed by another group of boys, said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. When the boys passed the group, gunshots were fired, police said.
One of the boys was shot in both legs and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Zala said. The other boy was shot in the right leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, Zala said. The boys were in "stable" condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Zala said the shooting is believed to be gang-related.
A 23-year-old man was in serious condition after being shot Saturday night while driving a vehicle in the South Side Gresham neighborhood.
The victim was driving a gray sedan in the 8000 block of South Paulina Street at 11:10 p.m. when a male assailant approached on foot and fired shots into the vehicle, police said.
He was shot in the abdomen and lower back and taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center, according to police.
A 24-year-old man was shot early Sunday in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the South Side.
A male assailant approached on foot and shot the man, who was walking in the 6500 block of South Campbell Avenue at 12:15 a.m., police said. The man was taking in "stable" condition to Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound in the left arm, police said.
About 3 a.m. Sunday, four people were shot in the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The shooting occurred in the 2700 block of West Madison Street, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
A 32-year-old woman was shot in the mid-section and was taken in serious condition John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the groin and the hand and was listed in "stable" condition at Stroger, police said.
Two 18-year-old men were also wounded in the attack, police said.
One of the teens was shot in the buttocks and the other was shot in the thigh, according to police. Both were in "stable" condition Sunday morning at Stroger.
A male is dead after being shot in the Little Village neighborhood early Sunday, police said.
The shooting occurred at 4 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Tripp Avenue, Alfaro said. He was shot in the chest and taken to an unidentified hospital where he died, police said.
