2 Hospitalized After West Side Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A firefighter and another person were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in the Austin neighborhood.
The fire broke out in the mid-morning hours Tuesday at 5526 W. Lake St. in the Austin neighborhood, according to fire officials.
The fire was reported about 9:20 a.m. Firefighters were still battling the blaze as of 9:50 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.
Two people were taken to area hospitals. A civilian was taken to Loretto Hospital in serious condition, while a firefighter was taken to West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in Oak Park with minor injuries, fire officials said.
The two-story brick building appears to have apartment units on the upper story and a storefront o the lower floor. The most recent available Google Maps Street View image shows a storefront featuring a brick wall with two glass-block windows and no signage.
Fire officials could not confirm reports that the building was vacant.
