We will see one more quiet day before starting to feel more and more of the effects of Hurricane Irene.
As Category 3 Hurricane Irene continues to churn through the Bahamas, folks along the East Coast are keeping a close eye on the projected path and forecasted strength.
Sunshine and clouds will be the weather story early today before the arrival of strong to severe scattered storms this afternoon and evening. The best chance for storms will be after 12 noon for Central Mass. and after 4pm for Eastern and SE Mass..
In less than 24 hours, Hurricane Irene has grown from a Category 1 to a Category 3 hurricane, what is considered to be a "major" hurricane.
We have sunny day #3 on tap today! High temperatures will be slightly warmer in the upper 70s to lower 80s...the coolest along the Cape/Islands.
Sunday appears to be the day of greatest concern here in New England, when the majority of rain and wind would occur from Hurricane Irene.
The sunshine will prevail along with the low humidity and seasonable high temperatures between 75-80F.
Skies will be partly cloudy late in the afternoon as a 500H trough sweeps across Southern New England. This will be the culprit for the diurnal cumulus clouds and potentially a brief shower or sprinkle for our north and west suburbs. Highs will be in 77F-82F range.
We will be soaking in some sunshine this morning before introducing a few showers and storms late this afternoon and evening. The CAPE and LI values along with a negligible CAP are all indicative of potentially strong to severe storms. These storms will be soakers! Highs will be in the lower to middle 80s today...upper 70s for the Islands.

These storms have the potential of becoming strong to severe with the high moisture content in the air along with CAPE vales between 1000-1500 and LI values between -2 and -4. Highs will range from the upper 70s along the coast to the lower 80s inland.
