What a way to make an entrance! We are in the midst of Winter on this February day, and high temperatures are aiming for the 50s! Average highs are now on the uphill swing.
It's an uneventful end to the month of January. A few benign flurries and snow showers (mainly north and west) will lead the way to a brighter sky this afternoon. There will be more clouds to the north as the warm front is taking its time as it travels northward. Highs will be in the lower 40s north and west to the middle 40s in the city to the upper 40s for the Cape/Islands.
A 'Clipper-like' system is moving through this morning, which is inducing a few light rain and snow showers. Skies will become mostly sunny afterwards. West-northwest winds will be gusting up to 30 miles per hour. High temperatures will be in the 35-40F degree range.
As temperatures continue to rise due to a warm front slowly tracking northward, the snow, freezing rain, and sleet has been switching over to rain.
The flakes will shut off this morning and give way to thinner clouds and a few peeks of sunshine by midday.
Today will still be mild for late January, but the mercury will stick in the lower and middle 40s as opposed to the 50s. Skies will become mostly sunny to partly cloudy along with breezy west-northwest winds.
When you step outside this morning, you may mistaken it for an early April day as temperatures for the majority of the area are in the middle 40s to middle 50s. However, there are exceptions. Some neighborhoods in southern New Hampshire are in the 30s.
There is a small amount of moisture as a warm front edges its way closer to New England. As it spreads moisture northward this morning, surface temperatures as well as the lower layer of the atmosphere are cold enough to support a few flurries and pockets of light freezing drizzle. Freezing Rain Advisories and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued to cover the potential icy conditions.
This title doesn't hold much 'weight' given the 'snow drought' we've had so far this winter season. When comparing it to the season thus far, Saturday's snow is setting up to be the biggest snow this winter. I must admit that I'm excited!
The first chance of snow comes tonight. Then, our eyes will focus on a more robust, although not monumental, storm on Saturday.
Our temperatures will be dropping into middle and upper 30s, remaining stagnant through midday, and then dipping into the upper 20s.
It's going to be a 'slow-go' morning as anywhere from a coating to a few inches of snow fell from the first batch of precipitation that began around 10pm last night. A second, lighter batch of precipitation has moved in since then.
This 'Winter' has proven to be rather fickle. We have been hanging on during these temperature swings. Here comes another one. This is a 'downhill' swing as we head into the weekend.
