It's the end in more ways than one...winter has ended, the snow is ending across southeastern Massachusetts, and it's the end of my chapter here at WBZ in Boston. I have spent the last 3 years 2 months and 18 days as part of the WBZ Weather Team.
It is officially spring, but the question is when it's going to start to feel and look like it!
The good news: we can just about put this snowstorm in the books…
There will be a widespread 2-to-4 inches (at least) on the ground by Tuesday morning's commute, just about everywhere. I expect lots of delays, cancellations and an extremely challenging morning drive.
Snow will move in between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Winter Storm Warnings and Watches have been issued for tonight through Tuesday.
Today will be sunny and cold as highs only hang near the middle 30s. Clouds will be taking over this evening ahead of this big winter storm...Winter's last hurrah, literally! Tomorrow, the last full day of Winter, will look like a winter wonderland for most of us.
We are less than a week from the arrival of Spring, but apparently Mother Nature hasn't received the memo!
After yesterday's mild, springlike feel, today will be a reminder that it's still winter, astronomically-speaking.

By this evening skies will begin to clear out and winds will be dying down. Consequently, the evening commute won't be as tough as this morning.

This storm is a long duration event lasting 36-to-48 hours total.
This winter storm will mean several things for Southern New England...Heavy, wet snow, heavy rain/mix, damaging winds, coastal flooding and beach erosion.
This storm will include a plethora of weather conditions - heavy, wet snow inland, heavy rain for the Cape and Islands, damaging winds, and coastal issues.
The coast will be dealing with a rain-mix throughout this storm with heavy, wet snow falling away from the coast.
There will be the potential of 6-to-12+ inches of snow, but the question remains 'where' that will fall.
We are bracing for yet another winter storm including heavy snow, rain, damaging winds, and coastal concerns.
Clouds will continue to blanket the sky for the next couple of days as an upper level low meanders near Nova Scotia. There will be 'tentacles' of moisture spiraling around this low pressure center which will induce scattered diurnal snowflakes and/or raindrops. As the sun sets, the sky will become less cloudy.
A mainly cloudy day is in store for this last day of February 2013. It has definitely turned out to be a snowy month. 34" of snow fell this month in Boston (+23.5"), and Worcester received 44.4" (+29.3"). Worcester could see a few more flakes just before February makes its official exit too.
The cold air will win out for higher elevations of Central Massachusetts as well as Southern NH where some areas will receive 3-6+" of heavy, wet snow. Ski country is going to be all smiles from today's storm!
A Winter Storm Watch is in place north and west of 495, which will most likely be upgraded to a warning later today.
Not only do we have more snow on the way in less than 48 hours, but temperatures following our next snow event are going to be near or below normal for the foreseeable future.
Skies will be cloudy this morning followed by peeks of sun this afternoon. Highs will be around 40.
