Ainge's First Draft Night
Ainge made his first big trade on his first draft night with the Celtics. Just over a month on the job, he swapped picks with the Memphis Grizzlies, sending Troy Bell and Dahntay Jones to Memphis in return for point guard Marcus Banks and an 18-year-old high school center out of Texas named Kendrick Perkins. Eric Williams for Ricky Davis
Things got bad in Boston when Ainge traded Eric Williams, Tony Battie and Kedrick Brown to the Cavaliers for Ricky Davis, Chris Mihm, Michael Stewart and a second-round pick in December 2003. Credit Ainge with an assist on this one. On deadline day of 2004, The Detroit Pistons acquired Rasheed Wallace in a three-team trade involving the Hawks and Celtics. Ainge sent Mike James to Detroit, Chris Mills to Atlanta and got Chucky Atkins, Lindsay Hunter and a first-round draft pick in return. The Pistons went on to beat the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Celtics-Lakers Swap in 2004
Ainge made a trade with the Celtics biggest rivals when he sent Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins, Marcus Banks and a second-round pick to the Lakers for Gary Payon, Rick Fox and a first-rounder. The trade was later amended with Jumaine Jones heading to LA and Banks staying in Boston. "The Glove" spent just one season in green, averaging 11.3 points and 6.1 assists per game. Here’s an interesting one. On deadline day 2004, Ainge re-acquired the man he traded just over a year before, Antoine Walker. He sent Gary Payton, Tom Gugliotta, Michael Stewart and a first-round pick to Atlanta for Walker. Eight days later he re-signed Payton, who was waived by the Hawks. Ricky Traded for Wally World In 2006
Davis had some fun in Boston, but Ainge sent him to the Timberwolves with Marcus Banks, Mark Blount, Justin Reed and two second-round picks in 2006 for Wally Szczerbiak, Michael Olowokandi and Dwayne Jones. Szczerbiak started 31 games for the Celtics in 2006 and averaged 17.5 points a game. He fought injuries in 2007, his only full season in Boston, appearing in only 32 games. Telfair Trade On Draft Night 2006
Ainge was at it again on draft night of 2006. He traded Dan Dickau, Raef LaFrentz and the rights to guard Randy Foye to Portland for Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and a second-round pick. Although that trade didn’t work out too well Ainge also traded a future first-round pick to the Suns that night for the rights to Rajon Rondo, and a future second-rounder to the Nuggets for the rights to Leon Powe. Ainge's Best Move
Danny’s best summer came in 2007, when he traded for both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. To get Garnett, Ainge traded Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and two second-round draft picks. Allen was acquired on draft night for the 5th overall pick (Jeff Green), Wally Szyzerbiak and Delonte West. The Celtics received a second-round pick they used to take Glen Davis. Perkins Sent Packing
Ainge's deadline deal that sent Kendrick Perkins to the Oklahoma City Thunder will be one of his most talked about -- and not in a good way. He sent Boston's starting center and bastion on defense along with Nate Robinson to Oklahoma City for Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic and a conditional first-round draft pick. While Green has been shown improvement during the 2012-13 season, many felt Perk's defense was irreplaceable at the time of the trade and the Celtics have never really recovered. Baby For Bass
Ainge sent Glen "Big Baby" Davis to the Orlando Magic in a sign-and-trade for forward Brandon Bass (Von Wafer was also included in the deal) prior to the 2012 season. Davis had worn out his welcome in Boston, and Bass has been a steady contributor both as a starter and off the bench.
Ainge Acquires Courtney Lee In July 2012
Looking to boost up Boston's depth at guard depth, especially with guard Avery Bradley on the shelf to start the season, Ainge sent JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore, Sean Williams and a 2013 2nd Round pick to Houston for four-year veteran Courtney Lee.
