Zakim Bridge Shines In Belgium's Colors
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Boston's landmark Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge was lit up in black, yellow, and red Wednesday night to show solidarity with the people of Belgium following this week's deadly terrorist attacks.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation had announced that the bridge will be illuminated in the colors of Belgium's flag.
Explosions set off by suicide bombers at an airport and subway station in Brussels on Tuesday killed 34 people and wounded 270. Islamic State has claimed responsibility.
The 10-lane, 1,432-foot span across the Charles River is the world's widest cable-stayed bridge and the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in the U.S.
It is named for a local civil rights leader and the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill.
