Yarmouth Woman With Long Criminal History Nabbed On Shoplifting Charges
HYANNIS (CBS) -- A Yarmouth woman with a lengthy criminal history was arrested Friday on shoplifting charges at the Cape Cod Mall, according to the Barnstable Police.
On Friday at about 5 p.m., an off-duty Barnstable Police narcotics detective who was Christmas shopping at the Cape Cod Mall observed a woman allegedly shoplifting at Victoria's Secret. The woman, Sarah Bryant, 39, of Yarmouth, is well known to law enforcement, the Barnstable Police reported Saturday night in a prepared statement.
Bryant has 127 entries on her adult criminal history, which dates back to 1993, the police said. She has convictions for property-related crimes in Barnstable, Dedham and Brockton District Court. Currently, Bryant has five open larceny-related criminal cases with a total of 15 counts pending in Barnstable, Falmouth and Wareham courts.
After the narcotics detective observed Bryant's suspicious activity in Victoria's Secret, he contacted Barnstable Police Department dispatchers and kept the Yarmouth woman under surveillance waiting for on-duty officers to arrive. Bryant then went to Jo-Ann Fabrics Side Store. When police stopped her there, she not only had the shoplifted items from Victoria's Secret but also several items from Jo-Ann Fabrics she had intended to steal, the police said.
Bryant was arrested and charged with two counts of shoplifting. She was released on bail and faces arraignment in Barnstable District Court on Monday.
