Tornado Confirmed In Wrentham By National Weather Service
WRENTHAM (CBS) – The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down on Wrentham's town common Tuesday evening.
A strong thunderstorm created the tornado at 5:39 p.m.
Elise Feyerhern said the winds were so strong they set off the fire alarm in her church.
"The fire department, he said, 'Those are rotating winds.' And it felt like you were in the middle of something," said Feyerhern.
It was a half-mile wide with 80 mile-an-hour maximum winds, which put it at the bottom of the enhanced Fujita scale as an EF-0.
"The Chief told us there were tennis balls from the tennis court across the street lofted into the air and just placed over here," said Joe DelliCarpini of the National Weather Service. "So the fact that things were lifted into the air again is a clear indication of a tornado."
No one was hurt.
"Cell phone alerts allowed residents to get to safety quickly," the agency tweeted Wednesday afternoon.
Damage was scattered, but not severe.
A large tree was uprooted, tree tops were snapped off and large limbs were torn down.
