Drunk WPI Student Wanders Into New Mexico Home, Starts Fight, Police Say
SANTA FE, N.M. (CBS) – A Worcester Polytechnic Institute student was arrested over the weekend in New Mexico after police say he got drunk, wandered into a home and started a fight.
Garrett Curran, 22, of Bolton, was arrested early Saturday in Santa Fe and charged with suspicion of breaking and entering, criminal trespass and child abuse, according to The Santa Fe New Mexican.
Police Capt. Jerome Sanchez told the newspaper Curran was in New Mexico on a college assignment and was "really intoxicated" when he wandered into a home around 3 a.m.
Curran went to a room where a 7-year-old girl was sleeping and fell asleep at the foot of her bed, according to the paper.
The girl woke up and told her father, who then woke Curran up. Police say Curran then started to fight the father, who held him down until officers arrived at the house.
The girl and her father were not hurt. But Curran appeared to have suffered quite a beating, based on his mug shots posted on the Santa Fe County jail website.
Sanchez told the paper Curran is charged with child abuse because he started a fight with the girl's father in front of her.
