Would You Take Manny Back?
Manny Ramirez hits the waiver wire this week and Tampa Bay has already shown interest. Gary Tanguay and Scott Zolak analyze the situation: Would you bring Manny back to Boston just to spite the Rays? Or could he actually help this team?
Zolak: "I just don't think bring Manny back here is going to make him [David Ortiz] hit any better, or reinvigorate this club. I don't want to see Manny come back. I don't think a lot of people do. I would watch because it would be drama at its best. Even if he sat on the bench you'd have to sit there and watch. NESN would have to spend money to get another camera and make it the "Manny Cam". Seriously. You'd have to stick him out in left field and say 'Thanks Ryan Kalish, thanks everybody else. Thank you guys who kept us afloat, we're going to get a quitter.'"
Tanguay: "I don't believe you should go get Manny Ramirez for the sake of getting Manny Ramirez. 50% of the equation is you got to prevent him from going to Tampa. Let me tell you something: I think, generally, players can put things in the past if a guy helps you win. As far as ownership, I don't think Larry Lucchino and Manny Ramirez will be having any dinners together. But for this short period of time, the amount of money we're talking about, and the message you would send to the guys in the locker room, I think it's a no-lose situation."
