Workers Rescued From Chelmsford Water Tower
CHELMSFORD (CBS) - Two men who were working on a water tower in Chelmsford became stuck in their basket crane Tuesday afternoon.
The men were stuck about 125 feet off the ground and were not able to get down due to a mechanical failure with the crane.
The brother of one of the stuck workers got on top of the tower and was able to throw harnesses to the two men in the crane. The workers, Matt West and Luke Fischer, then rappelled safely to the ground.
"It was scary for a little while," said Matt. "My brother climbed up and gave us a rope so we could get down."
Matt and Luke were stuck in the crane for about four hours before his brother, who also works with them, came to the rescue.
"I'm just doing my job," said Brian West. "They needed some help and I gave them some help."
The workers are subcontractors for Sprint and were updating the cell towers to 4G service. It was not immediately clear what caused the crane to get stuck.
