Worker Convicted Of Killing Needham Homeowner

DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) — A worker for a contractor installing a lawn sprinkler system at a Needham home has been convicted of fatally beating the 78-year-old homeowner and attacking his daughter-in-law.

A Norfolk Superior Court jury deliberated about eight hours Thursday before convicting 51-year-old William Dunn of Norwood on charges including first-degree murder and armed assault with intent to murder.

He was sentenced to the mandatory term of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors say Dunn was inside Robert Moore's home in November 2007 when he beat him to death with a baseball bat. He also severely beat Moore's daughter-in-law. Dunn fled when Moore's grandson came upon the scene.

Dunn's lawyer said his client was not criminally responsible for his actions because of mental illness.
