Worcester Soldier In Iraq Becomes Citizen
CAMP VICTORY, Iraq (CBS) -- This Veterans Day a Naturalization Ceremony was held in Iraq and a soldier from Worcester has become a U.S. citizen.
PFC Jesus Moreta took part in the ceremony held at Al Faw Palace on Camp Victory held for soldiers stationed in Iraq.
PFC Moreta's parents migrated from the Dominican Republic to the United States four years ago. He says he wanted to become a U.S. citizen so he could become an FBI agent and his wife, who is in the Dominican still, could join him.
It took Moreta two years to become a soldier because he didn't speak English well, but he overcame the language barrier.
"I put in my mind that I'm going to do it. This was my dream, and I know that this country has helped me a lot," he said.
About 40 soldiers took part in the ceremony.
