Worcester Museum Kicks Off Viking Invasion
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Worcester museum is kicking off its Viking Invasion, which is a series of events and exhibitions over the coming months meant to educate and inform about Viking culture.
Saturday's activities at the Higgins Armory Museum include workshops on how to make your own Viking shield, the role of women in Norse society and Viking combat techniques.
Through drills, exercises and games, participants learn about the weapons and fighting moves that made Vikings so intimidating.
Future events include a three-session class on Viking sword techniques
Organizers say that Vikings, while feared, were mostly farmers who prized skill in sports, games, poetry and the arts.
