WORCESTER - Both directions of I-190 in Worcester were shut down for nearly four hours on Wednesday after police responded to reports of a man with a gun. 

According to I-Team sources, the suspect with a gun shot at police. Officers fired back, but it is unclear if police hit the man, sources said. 

According to I-Team sources, the man shot himself in the head. The suspect's condition is not known.

State police said the scene was secure and the man was taken into custody.

Massachusetts State Police said troopers responded to I-190 at about 3:40 p.m.

Earlier shooting in Worcester investigated

About an hour earlier, police say there was a shooting not too far away on Heroult Road, where a victim was rushed to the hospital and the shooter ran. Police have not said if it's connected to the gunman on the highway. 

MassDOT said the highway was closed near Exit 2. Part of the highway was blocked off with yellow crime scene tape and officers could be seen searching the roadway. 

The highway reopened at about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday night. 

No other information has been released.
