Women Find Python In Trunk Of Car Rented From Logan Airport

KENNEBUNK, Maine (CBS) – A snake slithering in the trunk of a rental car.

That's what two tourists found after renting a Mazda from Hertz at Logan Airport.

When the two arrived at the Port Inn in Kennebunk, Maine, they found the extra passenger.

A motel clerk called 911.

Police arrived and used a pillowcase from housekeeping to wrangle up the ball python.

"I don't like snakes personally but it didn't really look overly threatening," said Lt. Eric O'Brien with the Kennebunk Police Department. "It was kind of cold so it was slow-moving. It wasn't too quick."

A Massachusetts man and reptile collector says the snake is his.

"I never thought I would see the snake again," said Paul Thibeau, who says the snake he called "Kat" escaped from the tank it was in a couple of weeks ago when his son was in the rental. "We spent about three hours trying to find it and never found it."

For now the snake is in the hands of Sparks' Ark in Maine, which tells WBZ-TV it is doing well.

A spokesperson for Hertz said in a statement, "We apologize for the experience our customer endured and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the rental."
