Woman's Wallet Stolen, Thieves Rack Up Over $20,000 In Charges
BEDFORD, N.H. (CBS) -- A New Hampshire woman says thieves stole her wallet and managed to rack up more than $20,000 in charges in about two hours.
Roz Fellbaum, 72, says she's normally pretty careful, but when a young woman stopped to ask her about a blouse while she was out shopping at Marshall's, she politely stopped to listen, her purse sitting in her cart.
That's when a young man bumped her cart, and before she knew it, her wallet had vanished, along with the man and woman.
"My wallet is gone and then I knew," Fellbaum said. "I've seen enough TV shows to know that's what they did."
Several expensive charges were made to her credit cards shortly after, including purchases at Best Buy totaling nearly $10,000.
Fortunately, Fellbaum is not on the hook for any of it, but she's warning women not to leave their purses in their shopping carts.
"We get so lackadaisical and we just don't think of it," she said.
