Woman Reportedly Thrown From Moving Vehicle On Interstate 495
MERRIMAC (CBS) -- State police are investigating reports that a woman was thrown from a moving vehicle on Interstate 495 northbound, suffering serious injuries.
At 3:38 p.m., troopers from the Newbury barracks were dispatched to I-495 northbound near Broad Street in Merrimac after several reports of a woman being thrown from a moving vehicle on the highway, police said in a prepared statement. Merrimac firefighters and an ambulance were also dispatched to the scene.
When emergency responders arrived, they found the injured woman suffering from serious injuries. The woman was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital by ambulance, then taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Boston.
One of the witnesses who reported the incident was an off-duty police officer. The off-duty officer was able to lead state police to the vehicle from which the woman was allegedly thrown. Police stopped the vehicle on I-495 southbound, south of the rest area in Merrimac.
Two men in the vehicle were placed into custody and taken to the Newbury barracks, police said. Henry Matos, 45, of Lawrence faces a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol. Moises Matos, 43, of Lawrence was placed in protective custody.
The injured woman's identity was not released, and her medical condition could not be confirmed.
State police from the Newbury barracks are investigating the incident with troopers assigned to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.
