Woman Dies After Being Pulled From Fire In Stoughton Home
STOUGHTON (CBS) -- A woman has died after a fire broke out in a Stoughton home early Saturday. Crews were called to the Grove Street house around 3:40 a.m. for reports of smoke.
According to Stoughton Assistant Fire Chief Michael Carroll, the woman was found in the room next to the fire.
Before first responders arrived, Jim Ravanis, who lives in the back of the house, says he tried his best to save the elderly woman who lives upstairs.
"There was a fire. I opened the door, saw the smoke," said Ravanis. "My landlord was already up there trying to get in. So we both tried to get in, But the smoke and heat was so intense, we could only get in like 10 feet."
The woman was eventually pulled out of the house by rescue crews who found her in the room next to the fire.
"We took her out and they started EMS right away, transported her to the Good Samaritan Hospital...We got word that she succumbed to her injuries," said Carroll.
Carroll said the woman, who was in her 70s or 80s, likely had smoke inhalation.
Six other people were displaced. There were no other injuries reported.
It took crews a few hours to put the fire out.
The cause is under investigation.
