Woman Pleads Guilty In 2010 Murder Of Pizza Deliveryman In Hyde Park
BOSTON (CBS/AP) - One of the three people charged with the brutal murder of a pizza deliveryman in Hyde Park four years ago pleaded guilty Monday.
Alexander Gallett, his girlfriend Yamiley Mathurin, and Michel St. Jean were charged with first degree murder in the death of 58-year-old Richel Nova.
Nova was lured to a vacant home in Hyde Park in September 2010, stabbed 16 times and then robbed of $143, according to investigators.
Mathurin, who is now 21, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, armed robbery and breaking and entering Monday in Suffolk Superior Court. It's possible she may now testify against the two co-defendants in their upcoming trial. She faces 20 years to life in prison.
All three have been in jail since 2010.
Maturin was remanded to the House of Correction. She'll be sentenced after the resolution of the case. A preliminary sentencing date was set for September 26.
Nova's family did not give a victim impact statement Monday, saying they will wait until the entire case is over.
The defendants, who did not have criminal records, were caught on surveillance video from the area and seen by a witness. One of their friends said she overheard the three discussing plans for the robbery a day earlier.
Nova's slaying enraged former Mayor Thomas Menino, who said he would "slowly torture" the suspects.
Menino, who knew Nova's twin daughters because they worked in City Hall, later backed off, saying he let his emotions get the better of him.
