Driver Charged After Fatal Crash Involving Dump Truck

BROCKTON (CBS) - A Pembroke woman has been arrested for allegedly causing a fatal car crash in Brockton Tuesday afternoon.

It was a grim scene on Quincy Street; three wrecked vehicles all over the road, including a 12-wheel dump truck that spilled its load and just missed smashing into a house.

A Bridgewater woman driving a Chevrolet Equinox was killed. Police say the driver of an Audi A6, 33-year-old Danielle Mastro of Pembroke, caused the crash.

"Audi's driving in the same lane as the Equinox, rear ends the Equinox pushes the Equinox into the other lane where the truck is coming down," said Plymouth County DA Timothy Cruz.

"And the truck attempted to avoid the other vehicle that was pushed into its lane and there was impact and as a result of that impact a woman is deceased."

Police say Mastro fled the scene on foot after the crash but was found moments later by officers.

The driver of the Equinox was taken to Brockton Hospital where she was pronounced dead. A female passenger in the Equinox was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Their identities have not been released.

The dump truck was loaded with tons of soil and came within inches of Patty Rose's home.

"When I opened my daughter's window right on the corner where the truck is, I opened up the screen and I could literally touch the truck so I don't know how he didn't hit the house I really don't," Rose said. "But I'm really sad that someone passed away."

The driver of the dump truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Mastro was charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. She will be arraigned Wednesday morning in Brockton District Court.
