Woman Injured After Train Collides With Car In Acton

ACTON (CBS) – A woman is injured after the car she was driving was struck by a commuter rail train in Acton Monday night.

The crash happened near 555 Massachusetts Ave at about 7:45 p.m.

The woman, a 63-year-old from Stow, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The vehicle she was driving, a Mitsubishi Outlander, sustained substantial damage.

Witnesses say the car somehow got stuck between the signal arms at the train crossing.

"The bang was just so loud, it was bad," said Tony Caggiano. "All you hear was the screeching, the horns honking."

Witnesses say the train was trying to brake but it hit the car. The car flipped over several times after the impact.

The woman was alert and only complained of hip pain after she was removed from the car.

Transit Police say the crossing gates were "functioning properly" prior to the crash.

There were approximately 25 passengers aboard the train at the time and no other injuries were reported.

The crash is under investigation.
