Woman Fights Off Knife-Wielding Robber In Fenway Area
BOSTON (CBS) -- A woman was able to fight off a knife-wielding robber in the Fenway area of Boston early Sunday morning, according to the Boston Police Department's blog.
Police were called to the Park Drive area around 2:21 a.m. after receiving a report about a person screaming. Officers found a woman who told them she had been slashed and robbed by the man.
The man allegedly raced up behind the woman while she was walking in a rear alley of a building, knocked her to the ground and tried to take her purse. Police say the man pulled out the knife and threatened to kill her.
After giving police a description, she was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say they were able to track down a man who fit the description in the Saint Stephen Street area, and a Northeastern University police officer ran after the man. A short time later they were able to take the man into custody.
Officers were able to recover several personal items that belong to the woman, police say, and also a knife tossed during the foot chase.
Wayne Barber, 53, of Dorchester, has been charged with armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder. He will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
