Woman Dragged To Death
She was dragged from Wrentham to Foxboro for more than three miles by a pickup truck.
Two men were taken into custody for questioning. One of them, 22-year-old Moses Acloque, of Norwood, was arrested.
Acloque pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday.
The defense said Acloque had been beat-up by three men, causing him to leave the motel. A lawyer for Acloque said he didn't know he hit anyone and is heart-sick over what happened.
He's charged with leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting.
A judge ordered Acloque held on $3,000 bail. He must wear a GPS monitoring bracelet. Acloque has no prior criminal record.
Acloque's attorney said he would make bail.
It began around 10 p.m. Monday at the Arbor Inn Motel on Route 1 in Wrentham.
Investigators said there was a dispute over a bill and two men drove off in a pickup truck, hitting an employee of the motel and then his wife, 58-year-old Kanchanben Patel. The husband was not seriously hurt.
Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said Patel was dragged for 3.2 miles in the northbound lanes before State Police stopped the truck outside Chickie Flynn's restaurant in Foxboro, just south of Patriot Place. She died.
Patel was a housekeeper at the motel and had recently become an American citizen.
"This should not have happened," friend Stanley told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "She was so proud and we gave her a little cake and everything. They were very proud of being American citizens."
