Woman Crashes Car Into Golf Course Sand Bunker, Blames GPS
NORTHBRIDGE (CBS) - An Uxbridge woman, who reportedly told police that she was just following her GPS when she wound up crashing into a golf course sand trap, is facing drunk driving charges.
The woman, identified by the Telegram & Gazette as Patricia A. Maione, 46, was arrested in her car Monday afternoon on Whitinsville Golf Club in Northbridge.
Maione reportedly told police "that her GPS had told her to turn left. She stated that this left brought her into a 'cornfield' and once she was in the 'cornfield' she kept driving, trying to get out of (the) 'cornfield.'"
Police say she hit speeds of 45 mph while driving on the golf course.
A number of golfers were playing at the time, but no one was injured.
The Telegram reports that Maione failed a field sobriety test and admitted to drinking a half liter of vodka that morning.
She's reportedly charged with driving with a suspended license; drunken driving, fourth offense; negligent driving; and driving with an open container of alcohol in the car.
