Two Women Charged In Robbery That Put 93-Year-Old In Intensive Care
NEW BEDFORD (CBS) - Two New Bedford women are facing charges for a robbery that landed a 93-year-old woman in intensive care.
On Friday around 4 p.m., New Bedford Police say the victim was waiting for a bus at Coffin Ave. and Ashley Blvd. when 23-year-old Juliana Souza snuck up behind her and knocked her to the ground while snatching her purse.
According to police, the victim hit her head during the fall and suffered serious injuries. Police said she had a lump to the right side of her forehead, and bruising to her nose, cheek, elbow and knee.
As of Monday night, she was still in the Intensive Care Unit of St. Luke's Hospital.
Witnesses told police they had overheard Souza and 28-year-old Julia Gibb talking before the robbery about how the victim would be an easy target.
Officers found Souza and Gibb hiding in an apartment across the street from where the attack happened.
Both women were arrested and charged with robbery and assault of an elderly person.
