Woman Hit With Dumbbell In Random Attack On Mattapan Bike Path

MATTAPAN (CBS) — State Police are looking for the man who attacked a woman on a bike path in Mattapan Tuesday afternoon.

The 46-year-old from Dorchester was assaulted around 2 p.m. on the Neponset Bike Path near the Ryan Playground. She was repeatedly hit in the head with a weapon suspected to be a lightweight dumbbell, according to WBZ-TV I-Team sources.

The man ran off towards River Street through the playground parking lot. State Police believe the attack was random.

The woman was taken to a Boston hospital where she was treated for cuts and bruises and released.

The man, who police are still searching for, is described as a black, in his 20's, approximately 5′ 10″ tall, wearing a Navy blue long sleeve shirt and Navy blue sweat pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call State Police.
