BOSTON (CBS) – A 4-year-old girl and a 24-year-old woman are in critical condition after a rollover accident that happened in the Tip O'Neill Tunnel shortly after midnight Sunday.

State Police say the two were ejected from a Toyota 4 Runner after it swerved to avoid crashing into a Chevrolet Malibu.

Police say 29-year-old Fatima Terif of East Boston was operating the Malibu in the middle lane and attempted to move into the left lane. The 4 Runner, which was being driven by 26-year-old Axel Delgado of Malden, was in the left lane and had to swerve to avoid the Malibu.

According to State Police, "The sudden maneuvers caused the driver to lose control of the 4 Runner, which rolled over and slid to a final resting position on its driver's side across the middle left travel lane. The Malibu struck the concrete barrier and came to rest in the left lane."

Both drivers and five passengers in the 4 Runner were taken to Boston hospitals.

Terif was cited for a marked lanes violation. Delgado was cited for driving with a suspended license and for having a child not properly restrained in the SUV.
