Wojnarowski On Felger & Mazz: 'Don't Think Boston Has Enough' To Complete Love Trade
BOSTON (CBS) -- The NBA Draft is just around the corner, and the rumors are really starting to heat up.
But that doesn't mean all those rumors are good news for the Boston Celtics. The Golden State Warriors have reportedly upped their offer to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love, adding sharpshooter Klay Thompson to a package that includes power forward David Lee. And while that isn't enough for the Wolves (at least not right now) it's a better package of proven players than the Celtics' package of draft picks, Jared Sullinger and/or Kelly Olynyk.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Mazz on Friday, and doesn't think the Celtics have enough to get a Love trade done. But he also doesn't think the Wolves will move the All Star on draft night.
"I don't think Boston has enough to do a deal now. I think it's becoming increasingly likely that Minnesota just goes forward with Love," said Wojnarowski. "The pressure is really off for them to do something by the draft, because they're not involved with any teams picking high enough for them to get a high pick. Even if Boston gave them their two picks, they might not be able to get a difference maker out of there."
Flip Saunders is reportedly asking Golden State to add Harrison Barnes to their proposal, which Wojnarowski says Golden State will not do. But that's a deal the two sides can revisit during the season.
"Saunders is going around discussing deals that won't happen, so he can go back to Love and his agent and say 'we tried, see you in training camp,'" he said. "They're looking for a one-sided deal, and Golden State is a team that can give them that. But I'm told by my sources in Golden State that they're not desperate for Love."
The other big story around the draft is projected first overall pick, Joel Embiid, undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his foot. Embiid's draft stock has dropped since the news broke on Thursday, making it very possible the center is on the board when the Celtics come up with the sixth overall pick. With his high ceiling of potential would it be worth it for Danny Ainge to take a chance on the seven-footer, even with his injury history?
"In some ways Embiid has Danny written all over him," said Wojnarowksi, adding that Ainge could afford to risk the sixth overall pick on the Kansas big-man. "I'm sure he loves a healthy Embiid like anyone else would. But I would give them a chance at doing it because it's a roll of the dice and a franchise player they could steal."
