Wojnarowski On Felger & Mazz: Celtics 'Probably Stand Pat' At Trade Deadline
BOSTON (CBS) - Adrain Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports joined Felger and Massarotti on Wednesday to discuss the Boston Celtics and their plans moving forward.
The NBA Trade Deadline is February 21st, and the Celtics will have to decide if they go forward with their aging stars or start the rebuilding process. But Wojnarowski doesn't think they'll do much, if anything, over the next two weeks or at the deadline.
"I think they're open to everything, but they were open to everything last year," said Wojnarowski. "I think odds are they probably stand pat. But if someone bowls them over with young players and draft picks for Pierce or Kevin Garnett, they'll look at it."
Kevin Garnett has been involved in a couple of trade rumors, but Wojnarowski said there is nothing to either of them. Will the Celtics try to move Kevin Garnett, and more importantly, would Garnett waive his no-trade clause to go to a championship contender?
"Kevin Garnett doesn't like change. He likes his routine, likes what he has there, and he's not going to be open to waiving his no-trade to go somewhere," said Wojnarowski. "If they deal KG, they're going to have to deal Pierce first. I just think it's unlikely."
Should Garnett get dealt, Wojnarowski thinks it will be very similar to the deal that sent Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City, as in a trade no one will hear much about until it's done.
"My feeling is I won't hear about it, you won't hear about it, and it will be a deal that gets done very quietly," he said.
The Celtics are currently the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, but have won four straight since Rajon Rondo went down for the season. How competitive are the Celtics in the Eastern Conference?
"I still think they're behind, Miami, Indiana, we'll see what Chicago is when Rose gets back and what level he'll play at," said Wojnarowski. "But even without Rose they've been much better. The Knicks are better. Brooklyn, I think is comparable, but Brook Lopez has become a significant factor, and Deron Williams has played better. To me, Boston is a first-round loser."
