With Possible Ray Allen Departure, Celtics Eyeing Nick Young
BOSTON (CBS) - With the chance Ray Allen leaves for Miami or Los Angeles (thankfully the Clippers and not that other team in yellow and purple), the Boston Celtics are setting their sights on swingman Nick Young, according to a Tweet by Fox Sports' Sam Amico.
The 27-year-old Young split the 2012 NBA season with the Washington Wizards and Clippers, acquired by LA at the trade deadline when they were unsuccessful in landing Allen. It now looks like Young is once again a team's backup plan for Allen.
In 22 games with the Clippers, Young struggled to find his stroke. He averaged 9.7 points per game over 23.5 minutes off 39-percent shooting. All those are down from his career averages (11.4 ppg, 38-percent shooting), and he shot just 35-percent from three-point range.

Young is a very streaky shooter, but when he gets in a groove can be dangerous from anywhere on the floor. He would be a serviceable player for the Celtics off the bench, but it would be tough to expect much out of the former 16th overall pick out of USC. He is not much of a rebounder, and even less of a defender. But as a role player, he could give the Celtics a nice option aside soon-to-be-signed guard Jason Terry.

Allen is scheduled to meet with the Heat on Thursday and Clippers on Friday. While Boston has a two-year, $12 million deal on the table, the Heat offer him the best chance at another ring and Clippers could assure him of a starting role.
