With Beckett Gone, Cook To Start Saturday Against Royals
BOSTON (CBS) - Josh Beckett was Boston's scheduled starter for Saturday night's game against the Kansas City Royals, but now finds himself on his way to Los Angeles.
So Aaron Cook, who was scheduled to pitch Monday, will start for the Red Sox in Beckett's place. Cook pitched this past Tuesday against the Angels, giving up four earned runs in the loss.
Roche: Trade Gives Red Sox Fresh Start
Beckett was traded to the Dodgers in a blockbuster deal Saturday morning that also sent Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto out West.
Beckett was 5-11 with a 5.23 ERA in 21 starts for Boston this season. In his seven years with the Red Sox, Beckett went 89-58 with a 4.17 ERA. He returns to the National League where he went 41-34 with a 3.46 ERA in five seasons for the Florida Marlins.
Cook is 3-7 this season with a 4.79 ERA.
