Wintry Mix...

With the fresh snow on the ground acting like a refrigerant surface temps are running cold right now and many are hovering below freezing.  We will be warming up but not before some moisture rolls through with a Wintry Mix later tonight.  Around midnight, a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain will begin to fall.  Many towns west and north of Boston will still be below freezing and roads that are untreated will become slippery and icy.  Along the coast, winds are now beginning to stir out of the SE...this should bring temps back close to or slightly above freezing when the precip falls and only a few icy patches are expected.  By morning that SE wind will be stronger and will begin to penetrate inland, changing all precip to rain.  In the morning, a stronger coldfront will slide through with some heavier downpours...they should be offshore by early afternoon shutting off the rain and a drying wind will bring the sun back in pieces for the afternoon along with very mild temps in the lower 50s!

A secondary coldfront will slide through on Sunday with a sprinkle or flurry then much colder air for early next week with highs in the mid 30s both Monday and Tuesday.

Later next week, a summertime pattern will set-up for the East Coast...a big Bermuda High will establish itself...and temps will soar to 60 degrees or higher Wednesday and Thursday of next week...WOW!

By the way, what a dissapointment this Leap Day storm was for some significant records.  First, the 0.9" that fell in the last few hours of the month knocked us out of the number one spot for least snowy Februarys.  Then last evening, Logan Airport reported 0.4" of snow and that knocked us out of the number one slot for least snowy Winters on record.
