Winter Storm:

Winter Storm Watches, Winter Weather Advisories, and Wind Advisories will take effect late tonight and continue through Thursday.

A few flurries and snow showers may creep in early tonight, but the heart of the storm won't begin until early Thursday morning around 3 o'clock.

Initially, it will begin as snow for areas north and west of Boston.

Boston will begin as a rain/snow mix.

Southeastern Massachusetts will be enduring a rain event.

The rain/snow line will track northward towards the Mass/NH border during the morning rush hours.

Most of southern NH will maintain snow/freezing rain/sleet status for the entire event.

The heaviest precipitation can be expected between the hours of ~8 a.m. through ~2 p.m.

About 3-6+" of snow will fall near the Monadnock region and in the heart of ski country.

Snowfall amounts may reach 1-3" across extreme southern NH and north central Massachusetts (including Fitchburg and  Worcester).

Cities and towns inside the 495 loop, we will see an accumulation of a coating to an inch.

The storms heads northward and the precipitation comes to a halt Thursday evening.

The east wind will mean business reaching sustained speeds of 30-40 mph and gusts reaching 50 mph.

On Friday, another low pressure system from our west and its associated occluded front will sweep through during the morning.

This will induce a few rain/snow showers.

Then, as the rain/snow mix tapers, temperatures will begin to fall in the afternoon and winds will pick-up. Highs will be in the low 40s, but they will fall into the 30s during the afternoon.

Weekend Forecast:

The weekend is rather quiet and cold.

Saturday will be partly cloudy, and we can't rule out a few afternoon flurries.

Highs will be in the lower 30s.

Sunday will be colder as the mercury struggles to hit the upper 20s along with partly sunny skies.

An 'Alberta Clipper' is showing signs of staying south of southern New England, but it could still produce a few afternoon snow showers for southeastern Massachusetts in its eastbound journey.
