Winter Has Been Tough On Local Businesses
SALEM, N.H. (CBS) - The cost of clearing snow is adding up for more than cities, towns and the state, but for businesses too. It's one of the challenges many businesses are facing with what seems like this winter's endless storms.
The owner of Completely Heeled Cobbler Shop in Salem, New Hampshire, Fouad Nakkoul, blames the snow for his sales cut in half from a month ago.
WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson reports.
"It hurts our business a lot the business is going down hill. People don't want to go out in this weather."
The owner of the Tuscan Kitchen has already blown through his snow budget for the year.
But, owner Joe Faro is choosing to look on the bright side in this bitter cold. He says people are craving comfort food, and he has a full menu for them. He also says the storms have hit mid week, rather than on the weekends.
He says the snow is part of dealing with running a business in New England.
"I think it's amazing we could have an 8 inch storm on one day, and a 15 inch storm the next, but it is what it is. It's coming out of the sky and we can't control it."
