Windows Shot Out Of Car On Route 3 In Plymouth

NORWELL (CBS) - Two South Shore women are still reeling from a bizarre and potentially deadly encounter on Route 3 just after midnight Monday.

The women, who don't want their last names used, had just gotten on Route 3 South, coming from Route 44, when someone shot out the back windows of their car.

"It was like a bomb went off in the car," explained Melissa, the car's owner who was riding in the passenger seat at the time. It was "not a popping sound," she adds, "just all of a sudden a huge noise - an explosion - and both windows were just gone."

The driver, Melissa's friend Carolyn, says had the shot come just a fraction of a second earlier, it could easily have gone through the front windows.

"Someone was watching over us," she says. "It could have been so tragic. It's awful."

The women were not initially sure what had happened. They say they pulled over and called police, who told them "the way the windows looked and the way that most of the glass was scattered, that [the bullet] came from the right back window and went out the left back window," explains Melissa. "We were in the slow lane. So it came from the woods and went out the other side."

They don't know why they were targeted, but they are relieved that their canine passenger in the backseat, Presley, wasn't hurt.

"I don't know how it missed her," Carolyn says. "But centimeters, inches; she's so lucky."

State Troopers from the Norwell barracks responded to the incident. They searched the area from where the shot was believed to have been fired but did not find anything.

They tell WBZ they are aware of other incidents of people shooting pellet guns in that area.

Residents at a nearby condo complex told WBZ-TV Tuesday that at least one unit was also recently hit by gunfire.
